In response to a video circulating on social media of an incident involving minors in Region Five (Demerara-Berbice), the Police arrested and released two brothers aged 14 and 11 in connection with the matter.
The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of the Police last Thursday, and an investigation was launched.
Police stated that based on a preliminary assessment of the situation, the two brothers were taken into Police custody on the same day the report was made and were subsequently released into the care of their father.
Investigations indicate that statements were obtained, and the relevant child welfare authorities are now playing an integral role in the matter.
However, the Police are presently awaiting the requisite pre-charge report as the investigation progresses.
The Police also confirmed that the parents of the victims have been kept informed of the progress of the investigation.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) assures the public that the matter remains under active investigation and that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law and established procedures.
