Home News Brothers’ drinking spree ends in death
A drinking spree between two brothers ended tragically on Father’s Day when one of them took his own life after believing that he had killed the other.
Based on reports received, the now dead teenager and his brother were having a drink at their Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) home on Sunday when an argument ensued between them.
The argument reportedly escalated into a fight during which the 18-year-old brother picked up a piece of wood and lashed his brother to the head.
The brother reportedly fell to the ground in an unconscious state. The teenager, who thought that his brother was dead, became afraid and ran into the back yard. Nevertheless, efforts were made to revive the brother, who subsequently regained consciousness.
Soon after they realised that the teenager was nowhere around and this prompted relatives to go in search of him. About 30 minutes later, the lifeless body of the teen was found. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
