The finalists in the Berbice Football Association (BFA) GT Beer and Candy Boss football competition will be decided tonight after the two pulsating semifinals. Monedderlust and Georgetown Police will clash in the first game while Edinburgh Gunners and Beacon FC will face each other for the right to compete in the New Year’s Day final. Both games will be played at the All Saints School Ground on
Princess Elizabeth Road, in New Amsterdam.
In quarterfinal action on Friday, a double hat-trick by Anthio Wallis helped Georgetown Police to a 7-2 win over Rosignol United. Wallis scored in the 6, 29, 30+2, 35, 42 and 60+1 minutes. The other goal for police came off the booth of Keyron Batson, scoring in the 57 minute. Rosignol got their goals off the booths of DeQuana Rigby (27) and Kevin McKenzie (54).
In game 2 on Friday evening, Edinburgh Gunners made light work of Black Sharks of Fyrish with a 5-2 win; Sherlock Philips a hat trick and Joseph Giddings a double. Philips scored his goals in the 13, 19 and 52 minutes while Giddings found the back of the nets in the 27 and 47 minutes while for the Black Sharks, Shaquille Batson and Jerman August found the target.
The referee is expected to blow the opening whistle at 19:00h to send Monedderlust and Georgetown Police into battle. The second game is scheduled to kick off at 21:00h. At stake in the competitions are both cash and other prizes. The winner of the competition is guaranteed $500,000. A total of $1M in prize money is up for grabs. (Andrew Carmichael)
