A sizable crowd in the auditorium of the McKenzie High School was treated to a show of dominance as Bryan convincingly beat Johnson 11-8, 11-7 and 11-3. Johnson however put up a futile resistance as he won the penultimate game 11-7.
The highly anticipated Linden Male Open Final was won by Maurice Cummings who outlasted Shavin Greene in a grueling contest to win three games to Greene’s two. Cummings earned the Title of Linden’s male Champion and bragging rights for the year.
In other matchups Elishaba Johnson won the B-Class Open Final against Nicholas Romain while the dominant Priscilla Greaves won four straight matchups to take the Girls’ 18-and-under title.
Meanwhile, the Under 13 Open Category Krystian Sahadeo defeated 9-year-old Dhanesh Persaud to take the trophy. However, Persaud showed remarkable class to bounce back in the C-Class Final.
The Masters Category winner, Vernon Rodrigues rolled back the years to claim the top prize in that category.
The two-day event was organized by the Linden Table Tennis Steering Committee under the name “Rebirth” since it represents the timely return of organized table tennis to the mining town after a few years’ absence.
