Burglar escapes with cash, jewellery from Essequibo Coast home

A lone burglar reportedly escaped with a quantity of gold jewellery and a sum of cash after he broke into a house at Columbia Back, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), on Saturday evening.
Based on reports received, the house is occupied by a 56-year-old housewife, her husband and their 3-year-old grandson. However, the couple retired to bed at about 21:30h but after some time, the woman was awakened by a noise in the house.

As such, she woke up her husband and they went to enquire during which they noticed the silhouette of a male in the dark and screamed for help.
This reportedly startled the intruder, who made good his escape through a window. As they switched on the lights in the house, they discovered that a wardrobe was broken into and four gold chains, one gold band, three pairs of gold bangles and $20,000 in cash were missing.
They also discovered that several louvre panes from a window were missing. A report was subsequently made at the Anna Regina Police Station and an investigation was launched.
The kitchen cupboards that were searched
Meanwhile, at least two other houses were broken into in the same area, suspectedly by the same perpetrator. One woman explained that when she woke up on Saturday evening, she saw her kitchen cupboards ransacked and thought it was her son who was looking for something.
When I called meh son and ask him, he said no, he wasn’t looking for anything… when I continue to look around, I see some eatables in the fridge and so missing… things like chocolates and so… so the person who went in the house proper help he self… then I see one of the windows open…”, the woman added.
She nevertheless stated that the burglar did not get anything substantial. “In fact, I had an anklet in a purse and that is what he took… but like after he nah get nothing here, he went to the other house where he did the same thing… Went through a window and tek what he wanted.”
The Police are investigating these incidents.
