33rd annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket tournament…
The 33rd annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket tournament, scheduled for play from July 8-22 in St Michael, Barbados, is currently being played.
While Queen’s College are reaping the fruits of their efforts, the same cannot be said for The Business School, which have thus far lost four consecutive matches.
In their most recent match, they faced the Hamilton Lashley Foundation, and lost by 3 wickets in a match reduced to 22 overs because of wet conditions.
Batting first, the Business School were in trouble from the get-go, losing key wickets up front and not being able to utilise the ‘power-play’ overs to their advantage.
Their batsmen were soon back in the pavilion as the Guyanese side crumbled under pressure, being dismissed for 80 in 18.4 overs. Wayne McPherson top-scored with 20, Ushardeva Balgobin made 18 and Ariel Tilku 13. Bowling for the Hamilton Lashley Foundation, Tireak Williams tok 4-7, Shakeem Boyce 2-12, and Vashdeo Persaud 2-10.
In response, the Hamilton Lashley Foundation, although losing wickets at key moments, prevailed in the contest as Tireak Williams produced a match-winning 22 not out, while Kodi Braithwaite and Delon Prescod scored 12 and 10 runs respectively.
Bowling for The Business School in a losing effort, Christopher Harry took 4-34.
In an invited comment, Business School manager Omesh Dhanram said, “We have lost four games on the trot, so now we are basically playing for a position in the tournament. We are hoping to win our first game, as we can see the chemistry of the team growing more and more in each game. Despite the team not being accustomed to the conditions, we have seen drastic improvement in the team, and will be aiming to win our next game.”
