Businessman arrested after discharging loaded firearm

Police in Division Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) have arrested a businessman who reportedly discharged his firearm in a public place.

This incident occurred at some time around 22:15h on Friday at Canal #2, West Bank Demerara, and the businessman, whom Police have identified as 57-year-old Imran Khan, is a farmer and licensed firearm holder.

Khan was allegedly seen shooting off his 12-gauge shotgun, but when contacted by the Police, the businessman denied the allegation. However, upon further inspection of the scene, the ranks discovered an empty shell on the property, which the Police said is “about 200 metres off the public space.”

Nevertheless, the man was arrested and escorted to the Police station, where his firearm and the spent shell casing were lodged.
