Businessman dies, teen injured after car turns turtle

A businessman is now dead while a teen is injured after he reportedly lost control of the car he was driving along the main access road of West Coast of Berbice (WCB) on Wednesday.

Dead: Remy Ramsammy

Dead is 30-year-old Remy Ramsammy of Bush Lot, WCB, while the injured woman has been identified his ‘rakhi sister’, 19-year-old Mohanie Jagdeo of Bath Village, WCB.
According to the Police, Ramsammy was proceeding along the roadway at a fast pace when he lost control of his vehicle and ended up on the other side of the road. This resulted in him colliding with a concrete fence after which the car crashed into a utility pole.

The car that Ramsammy was driving

The businessman and the teenager were pulled from the wreckage and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A resident in the area told Guyana Times that he was at home when he heard a loud sound, and upon checking he realised that it was the sound of an accident. At that time, he said, the car’s four wheels were in the air.
When this publication visited the dead man’s home, his wife, Rakhaj Williams related that her husband had left home on Wednesday to run some errands with the teen. She noted that she had been in contact with him throughout the day.
She related that Ramsammy had asked her to accompany him, but she could not make it and suggested that he take the teenager.

She recalled that prior to the accident he phoned her and requested that she carry out an accounting procedure at the tyre shop which he ran.
“When I called him back about 10 minutes after, someone else answered the phone and told me that he was no more.”
Williams said she immediately panicked and contacted his aunt, who stated that by the time she arrived at the scene, they had already taken her nephew to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the teenager remained hospitalised in stable condition.
