The cheque that was written to cover funeral expenses

One day after Guyana Times reported the family of 57-year-old Bridgemohan Persaud who was killed in an accident on November 21, 2020 is calling for justice, the businessman whose truck was involved in the accident confirmed that his company, GuyAmerica Construction has offered to take care of the funeral expenses.

Dead: Bridgemohan Persaud

In the previous article, the family claimed that no one from the construction company visited the home to offer condolences, but this accusation is false.
A video seen by this publication on Sunday revealed that workers and seniors official of the company visited Persaud’s home and met with his family shortly after the fatal accident.
In addition, the dead man’s son Yateshar Persaud has been in constant contact with the owner of the company who offered $250,000 to offset funeral expenses.
“Reading what was reported by the son is quite disturbing … we have been with the family in every step of the way… we have offered to pay for the funeral expenses and he even turned up at my office with his ID card so that the cheque could be written … the cheque is written and he never returned to collect it,” the businessman stated.
Further, Guyana Times understands that the son requested $4 million from the driver of the truck that was involved in the accident to settle the matter. The driver has already been charged for causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on $200,000 bail.
On this note, the businessman explained that the Police have to carry out their investigations to determine who was at fault.
He noted, “We want justice to be served as well… it is not easy to lose someone in an accident, but we want the Police to conduct a thorough investigation, which will determine who was at fault.”
A Police source on Sunday explained that the cycle that the man was riding at the time of the accident was not equipped with brakes, and more so, the handle of the cycle came into contact with the rear wheel of the truck that was coming out of the “overhead tank street” at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
“It is not a case as if the motor vehicle hit in from the front, the story that was told by the family is completely the opposite of what actually took place,” the source stated.
Persaud, of Lot 84 Farm Squatting Area, EBD, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital shortly after the accident.
