An East Bank Demerara businessman allegedly drew a handgun and threatened to shoot two Police ranks after they attempted to arrest him at Puruni Landing, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) causing them to retreat to safety.

According to the Police, at about 08:00h on Saturday, a team of officers –including the duo who were threatened – returned to Puruni on two ATVs and spotted the suspect on a motorcycle. After signalling him to stop, the man rode head on into one of the ATVs and injured his left leg. He was arrested, and a search was conducted on his person.
An unlicensed .38 Special Ruger Revolver with three live rounds along with 137 grams of cannabis was discovered in a haversack. The 33-year-old man has since been admitted a patient at the Bartica Hospital under guard nursing a fractured leg.
Investigation is ongoing.
