Businessman shot by bandit remanded for illegal gun possession

A Kitty, Georgetown businessman was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with the illegal possession of a firearm.
Paul Chow, of Railway Line, Kitty, denied the allegation against him when Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charge.

It is alleged that on November 9, 2017, at Avocado Square, East Ruimveldt, Chow had a .32 pistol in his possession while not being a licensed firearm holder.
A second charge read to him stated that on the same day at the same location, he had 13 live rounds of .32 ammunition in his possession while not being a licensed firearm holder.
Attorney Glen Hanoman told the Court that his client was shot during a robbery.
He further revealed to the Court that Chow was at the time standing outside his place of business when he was cornered by a lone gunman, who ordered him to hand over his jewellery.
However, Chow refused to comply and attempted to retaliate by whipping out his own weapon, which reportedly fell to the ground.
The gunman then shot Chow to his abdomen before making good his escape.
Chow was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated.
Police who reported to the crime scene picked up Chow’s pistol, which was found to be unlicensed. As such, the present charges were laid.
Chow was remanded to prison to return on December 18, 2017.
