Businessman shot during suspected execution attempt

A Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) businessman was on Saturday afternoon shot by two armed gunmen.
Rajendra Prasad, called “Bobby” of “Bobby and Son Boutique” located at Arch Road, Rose Hall Town, was rushed to the Anamayah Memorial Hospital about 15:30h with two gunshot wounds – one to his abdomen and the other grazing his head. He was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was being observed by doctors.
Meanwhile, Police were on Saturday evening in pursuit of the two perpetrators, who escaped on a CG motorcycle through Reef, Rose Hall into the backlands.
An eyewitness told Guyana Times that the gunmen arrived on a motorcycle, and both were wearing full face helmets.
According to another eyewitness, the boutique was closed during lunch and had just reopened when the bandits struck. The eyewitness related that persons in the store were ordered to lie face down on the floor. One of the gunmen then approached Prasad, who was in the cashier’s booth and opened fire, hitting him. The intruders then fled.
This publication understands that no cash or valuables? were taken, leading Police to launch an investigation into a possible execution plot.
In March, Police had nabbed a 24-year-old gunman with a .38 revolver, along with four matching rounds of ammunition.
In his confession, the gunman – Cordell Fraser – had told investigators that he was on his way to assassinate Prasad after he was hired by a Jamaican man to carry out the hit.
Prasad operates the major clothing and footwear store, and lives on the upper flat of the three-storey building.
