Businessman sponsors 100 women for breast cancer screening
October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is aimed at educating the public about the deadly disease which has a leading incident rate of 22.6 per cent and the second highest mortality rate in the world.
During this month, several activities are planned to raise awareness and more so, get women to be screened and tested for breast cancer.
As such, Global Imaging Services Inc, which operates out of the St Joseph Mercy Hospital, sees the necessity for continuous dissemination of information to the general public and the importance of an early screening-detection mechanism.
It is the hope of the group to mitigate the effects that breast cancer has placed on society. This year, the group will be targeting underprivileged women from age 35 and above who cannot afford to have their mammograms done.
On this note, Azruddin Mohamed of Mohamed’s Enterprise has committed to sponsoring 100 women to undergo the screening process. The women will be drawn from various communities in Guyana including those from the Muslim community.
The images will be sent overseas – India and US – to be analysed after which the results will be returned and dispersed.
Mohamed in an invited comment stated that he is extremely happy to be a part of an initiative of this nature. In fact, he stated that over the years, he has contributed overwhelmingly to the Guyana Cancer Foundation and other cancer-related entities.
More so, he urged women to be screened since early detection is important.
