Acting Regional Chairman Nandranie Coonjah, Regional Executive Officer Devanand Ramdatt, and Alana Thomas at the handing-over ceremony

The donations were made possible by businessmen Derrick Gobin of D Gobin Agri Spare Centre of Zorg, Essequibo Coast and Victor Rodriguez in observance of Amerindian Heritage Month.
The REO said that the donations were timely not only because of the traditional observance but also in light of the COVID-19 pandemic which has seen persons losing their jobs.
As such, he thanked the businessmen who responded to the Region’s calls as it tries to assist those in need.
Alana Thomas of Red Village, who collected the hampers on behalf of the residents, said that she was very much thankful for the donation, noting that the residents were trying to make ends meet. The hampers, she noted, will bring some relief to the residents of the community.
Thomas further explained that owing to financial constraints, residents are unable to celebrate this year’s Heritage Month. Nevertheless, she is hoping that with the assistance received, they can plan a cook-out in the village to mark the occasion.
