Businesswoman robbed of raw gold, cash

A businesswoman is now left counting her losses after she was attacked and robbed of some $2.4 million worth of raw gold and cash in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens, Regent and Vlissengen Road, Georgetown on Monday.
Navita Novais, 46, left her Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home at about 10:00h on Monday using a taxi. According to reports, the woman had some $360,000 along with the raw gold stashed in her handbag.
She travelled to Georgetown with the 23-year-old taxi driver known to her and conducted business after which she proceeded to the Gardens to meet her husband.
While waiting, a gunshot was heard, and a lone gunman approached her. The shot shattered the motorcar’s windshield. The bandit demanded that the woman hand over her valuables, to with Novais complied.
The perpetrator then jumped onto an awaiting motorcycle and he and his accomplice made good their escape.
The matter was reported but no one has been arrested.
