BV man attacked, chopped over old grievance

A brutal attack in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) which stemmed from an old grievance, has left one man nursing chop wounds at the regional hospital.
The injured man was identified as 30-year-old Devon Assaye of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara. His attacker, a 46-year-old male, was taken into custody.
Based on reports received, the incident took place on Saturday at the Bartica Arcade, where tensions escalated between Assaye and the suspect.
According to reports from law enforcement, the suspect launched a vicious assault on Assaye, wielding a cutlass and striking him on his left hand. The attack resulted in severe injuries, leaving Assaye in critical condition.
Following the assault, the suspect fled as persons in the area rushed the injured man to Bartica Regional Hospital. Assaye was examined and admitted as a patient.
The incident was reported to the Police and due to the swift response from law enforcement officers, the assailant was arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
