Sixty-two-year-old Lionel Mohamed, a miner, of Sideline Dam, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was on Thursday arrested with a quantity of cocaine and ganja at the Bartica Stelling, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Based on reports received, Police ranks went to the Bartica Stelling where they instructed 13 passengers to disembark with their belongings.
A search was conducted on the passengers and their belongings. Mohamed was carrying a white salt bag at the time, and during the search, a five-pound milk tin was found.
Further searches unearthed four compressed bulky transparent parcels containing ganja in the tin, along with another transparent parcel with whitish rocklike substances.
The suspect was cautioned after which he admitted ownership of the narcotics. The cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 948 grams while the cocaine weighed 55 grams.
He was detained as Police continue their investigations.
