international commercial arbitration in Guyana and the region.
Hamilton said the Conference would include a special course on commercial mediation and presentations on the fundamental workings of commercial arbitration proceedings.
“Some of the areas that will be looked at are the basic legal framework for arbitration, the arbitration agreement and the role of the court. On the 26th of April, there will be an ICSID International Arbitration Workshop and this programme will guide participants through each stage of an [International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes] ICSID arbitration. It will also update participants on the latest developments in ICSID and best practices before ICSID tribunals by reference to the most recent cases,” the Attorney General’s Chambers said in a statement.
Williams commended the CAIArb for bringing the Conference to Guyana, especially at a time when the country is seeing an increase in investors. He also noted that arbitration is an important tool to settle disputes and legal practitioners should be educated in this area of the law.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Solicitor General, Kim Kyte John; Permanent Secretary Joylyn Burrowes; State Solicitor and Public Trustee, Ayanna McCalman; Principal Parliamentary Counsel, Joann Bond; and Oneka Archer, Principal Legal Advisor.
