Camille’s Academy takes steps to bridge gap in AI usage in Guyana
Recognising the gap between Guyana and the rest of the world as it relates to artificial intelligence (AI), an informative session was facilitated by Camille’s Academy which saw scores of students and educators being exposed to the many benefits in which the technology can improve learning activities.
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has been rampant these days, as big techs have tried to figure out how to capitalize on the opportunity and enjoy the efficiencies that have been emerging whereas in the Caribbean region and Guyana, tiny pockets of AI development exist.
These were the sentiments of the founder of the Caribbean AI Institute, Nick Brown while speaking at the conference last week.
“As developed countries put billions of dollars into artificial intelligence, countries like Guyana haven’t had anyone demonstrate to them at scale how these tools can be used,” he stated.
According to Brown, currently, the world has entered into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which was described by him as “going into the future full of unknowns.”
“We are moving into an unchartered future. The future that you guys will be growing up in is going to look radically different than the way the world looks today,” Brown told the gathering.
During the event, he unveiled to students an application referred to as ChatGPT which can be used by students to create cutting-edge technology to enhance their learning process.
Providing examples of how to use the application, the app showed within seconds that it produces rapid results for varied assignments that students may have.
As students were unmasked to this new cutting-edge technology, they were also made known to other AI applications such as Khan Academy’s AI tutor (KhanMigo), Perplexity, Bard, ChatGPT, Snap AI, and Bing AI.
Whilst the informative project is carded to last throughout the year, in the next three months a major project focused on training teachers about leveraging AI tools is expected to commence.
