Camp Street All-Stars sealed their berth to the knockout round despite losing to Bent Street 2-0 on penalty kicks, after normal time ended 0-0 when the group stage in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Football Championship concluded on Thursday at Demerara Park.
The Lot 12 based unit needed to ensure that defeat did not occur during the regulation time.
North East La Penitence made light work of Up Like-7 by a 3-0 margin; Shaquille Browne opened the scoring in the second minute while Jermaine Junior made it 2-0 in the eighth minute. The score line was sealed in the 30th minute as Kelvin Moore placed his shot down the centre of the net.
More so, Leopold Street overcame Festival City Warriors 3-1 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 1-1. Omallo Williams gave Leopold the lead in the sixth minute but Daniel Favourite equalised in the 28th minute.
Meanwhile, Broad Street made light work of Stevedore by a 3-0 margin. Darren Benjamin, Kevin Cummings and Quacey Weeks scored in the eight, 26th and 28th minute respectively.
Back Circle eliminated North Ruimveldt 3-1 on penalty kicks following a scoreless regulation time interval.
Tucville sealed their place in the final eight after edging West Back Road 3-2 on sudden death kicks after regulation time produced a goalless match.
Similarly, Albouystown-A defeated Channel-9 Warriors 2-0 on sudden death kicks after normal time ended 0-0.
Defending champ Sparta Boss defeated 2013 holder Queen Street Tigerbay 2-0. With both teams already assured a place in the quarterfinal round, Dennis Edwards and Solomon Austin scored in the 28th and 30th minute apiece.
The event resumes today at the same venue where from 20:00hrs, Leopold Street will oppose Tucville while Sparta Boss will engage Camp Street All-Stars from 20:30h. In the third contest, Back Circle tackles North East La Penitence at 21:00h while Broad Street will tackle Queen Street Tigerbay at 21:30h.
