Campbell cops silver, Fung bags bronze at CAC Bodybuilding Championships
– Guyana to host event in 2024
Amid many questionable decisions, Guyana’s six-member CAC team finished with two medals at the CAC Bodybuilding Championships, which were staged in El Salvador over the weekend.
Men’s Physique standout Emmerson Campbell finished with another silver (first one in 2016) in a puzzling decision to the eventual overall winner, while Rosanna Fung copped bronze in the Junior Bikini category.
Guyana’s other competitors, Kerwin Clarke (80kg) and Yannick Grimes (Men’s Physique) finished fifth and fourth in their respective categories, while Roger Callender (65kg) and Rawle Greene (80kg and Masters) failed to place in the top 6 in their respective divisions.
Congratulations are extended to all the athletes who competed at CAC 2021, especially Rosanna Fung at her first CAC, and Emmerson Campbell who almost gained his pro card.
Guyana will host CAC 2024 (Central America and the Caribbean Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Championship). This was announced by President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, Keavon Bess.
Initially Guyana’s bid to host CAC 2023 was submitted to the Executive of the CACBBFF, but CAC 2023 was given to Aruba after their bid was revealed to have been presented since 2020.
At CAC 2019, Barbados had also bid for, and secured, CAC 2022. At neither of these General Assembly meetings was Guyana represented. After consideration of Guyana’s bid document and oral presentation on Guyana’s behalf, the CAC General Assembly unanimously voted in favour of Guyana hosting the event in 2024. This vote was then officially added to the minutes, and an official document to that effect was delivered to President Bess of the GABBFF.
“Congratulations to the Executive members of GBBFF, its athletes and the People of Guyana on this monumental achievement,” Bess said on his Facebook page.
