The Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) recognized three of their top athletes during Friday’s Award ceremony held at the National Racquet Center on Woolford Avenue.
Among those recognized for their outstanding 2017 on the court; were Cristy Campbell and Anthony Downes who copped the top Female/Male senior awards while Queens College’s Joshua Kalekyezi bagged the Junior Male player of the year trophy.
Campbell picked up her award for a second consecutive year Downes repeated for a fourth time by winning the male title. The former thanked all her supporters and coaches for being the driving force behind her success while Downes was unable to accept the award in person as he’s currently in Brazil training.

GLTA President Jamal Goodluck hailed his association for overcoming numerous challenges, including limited facility access as they still managed to give good accounts of themselves during their overseas assignments. Those in attendance included President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) K.A. Juman Yassin, Dr. Steve Surujbally along with National Sports Commission (NSC), assistant director of Sport Brian Smith.
