Campbellville resident slapped with robbery charge

Twenty-four-year-old Kevin Benn of John Street, Campbellville was on Monday arraigned before Georgetown Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer on a charge of robbery.
Details of this charge are that on March 31, 2018, while being armed with a knife, Benn robbed teenager Navendra Rampersaud of a Samsung Galaxy cellphone along Hincks Street in Georgetown.
It was reported that Navendra Persaud and Ramesh Sooklall were exiting a taxi when they were confronted by three men, one of whom was armed with a knife. Police ranks in the area at the time were subsequently alerted, and their prompt response reportedly led to Benn being shot and apprehended.
Benn has, however, denied the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Mittelholzer.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore did not object to the defendant being placed on bail, thus bail was set in the sum of $60,000, and Benn was ordered to return to court on January 25, 2019.
