Camptown FC and Pouderoyen FC had contrasting wins in their quarter-final bouts to complete the final two spots in the inaugural Turbo Energy Drink Football Tournament on Thursday evening.
With Police and Grove Hi-Tech already booking their semi-final spots on Tuesday
evening, the Ministry of Education ground, was once again turned into a battle field
The Campbellville unit were down and out until a contentious goal brought them back into the match against Linden’s Silver Shattas in the 85th minute from Wayne Sharpells. Camptown went unto win the match 7-6 on sudden death penalty kicks.
Shattas had earlier scored in the 13th minute via Jumain Samuels.
In the other match, Mahaica Determinators went down to West Demerara’s Pouderoyen 0-1 in extra time.
Despite an abject first half, no side still could not find a goal in the second stanza. . It took Neil Lynton in the 107th minute to decide the winner.
The semi-finals are expected to be played this coming Wednesday while the final is scheduled for December 3. Teams are hunting a championship purse of $500,000, while the runners-up will receive $250,000. The third place team will receive $125,000, and fourth place finisher will have to settle for $75,000.
