Canadian School of Arts hosts candlelight vigil for Ciara Benjamin

Scores of persons turned up at the Canadian School of Arts and Science on Wednesday evening to mourn the loss of one of the students, Ciara Benjamin, who died last weekend in a tragic accident.
Seven-year-old Benjamin was a Grade One student of the institution. In a solemn ceremony, teachers, parents and fellow students consoled her family members. Candles were lit as “a reflection” on her life at the school.
One of the teachers told Guyana Times that Ciara would be dearly missed. As such, they thought it necessary to show moral support to the family.
“We, along with the parent body, decided to host this event – a night of reflection. This is to mourn the passing or the tragedy which occurred on June 1 with Ciara Benjamin. She’s a member of the school, a Grade One child. As a family, we celebrate together and in times of mourning, we must show moral support.”
Benjamin lost her life in a road accident at Agricola, Greater Georgetown as she was hit by a truck while crossing the road with her aunt.
Her mother, Tracy De Hart, explained that her daughter was brilliant and loving. When she received the call just minutes later, it was impossible for her to go to the scene. It was explained that Benjamin had resided with her father since the age of two, but would periodically visit her mother.
On Sunday, Benjamin’s stepmother, Chrisan Thegg stated that she would usually take the child to plait her hair. She was also supposed to assist her with her school assignments.
“I told her yesterday (Saturday)…I said I am going to the mall and we are going to buy the stuff to do your assignment – she was going to make a traffic light, so I said we are going to go there and do that today (Sunday).
