Canal 6 extends dominance for 2nd year

Canal 6 emerged winners of the 12th annual Satyadeow ‘Sash’ Sawh Memorial dominoes tournament, played last Sunday at Ernest Shop, Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara.
The tournament, organised and sponsored by Sash Secretariat, saw the eventual champions mark 71 games to win easily from Mixed-up with 64 and the hosts, who trailed on 61.
The victory also marked the second consecutive year for Canal 6, who defeated International 6 and Sash Secretariat at the same venue in 2017.
Canal 6 made their intentions clear from the onset, marking 14 games, with Sash Secretariat behind on 10, while Mixed-up started with a mere four games. The eventual winners were never challenged thereafter, and romped to an easy win.
Skipper Shivdat Sukhai led from the front with 17 games, while Buddy Prittipaul and Basdeo Persaud supported with 17 and 12 respectively for Canal 6.

O. Ajoda led the way for Mixed-up with the maximum 18 games, while Ramanah made 12.
Doodnauth (14 games) and Vishnu Persaud (13) were the outstanding players for Sash Secretariat, but saw two of their teammates, B. Dwarka and G. Dwarka, go down lovers’ lane.
The winning and first runner-up trophies plus prizes for the three top players in each team were sponsored by Sash Secretariat, while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy was added, compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall. The three top players were Shivdat Sukhai of Canal 6, O. Ajoda of Mixed-up, and Doodnauth of Sash Secretariat. Sawh, a former Minister of Fisheries, Crops and Livestock, died under tragic circumstances on April 22, 2006, and a minute’s silence was observed for his passing prior to the commencement of the tournament.
Among those responsible for the staging of the tournament are United States-based Guyanese Mark Dookhan, who served as driver to the late minister; Sahadeo Mahabali, Vishnu Persaud and Indra Jagmohan. The organisers would also like to take the opportunity to express sincere thanks to the proprietor of Ernest Shop for allowing the venue to host the tournaments over the years.
