Canal man arrested after illegal shotgun found at his home

Police on the West Bank of Demerara on Thursday morning arrested a 47-year-old man after an illegal shotgun and matching cartages were found at his home.
The discovery was made at some time around 09:30h at the suspect’s Sans Souci, Canal Number 1 Polder, WBD, home.

Based on reports, a party of Policemen, acting on information received, went to the suspect’s home. Upon arrival, the ranks made contact with the man and told him of the reason for their visit. As a result, a search was conducted on the premises in the presence of the suspect and his wife.
During the search, it was observed that a table contained a hidden compartment. The Police say they discovered two objects made of metal and wood which appeared to be components of a firearm.
Also unearthed was a transparent plastic bag containing eight (8) cartridges.
The suspect was questioned whether he is a licensed firearm holder, and he responded in the negative. He was then cautioned, arrested and taken to the La Grange Police Station, where he was placed in custody.
Investigations are in progress.
