Cancer patients at GPHC benefit from GTT’s Pinktober care packages

Patients of the Oncology Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Thursday benefited from a generous distribution of GTT’s Pinktober care packages.

“Being a cancer patient and having to go through screening and treatment can be difficult –- but knowing you have support from persons, including corporate citizens – can help to make things a bit easier,” Pinktober Coordinator Diana Gittens related.
“Cancer patients are even more vulnerable given our current pandemic and we at GTT wanted to ensure that they have the necessary supplies to maintain proper hygiene in the interest of both health and safety,” she added.
Gittens also used the opportunity to remind the public to make use of the treatment and care provided by the Oncology Unit. “Although treatment can sometimes be extremely tough, the supportive environment and excellent care make the journey easier,” she added.
Brain cancer survivor Clint Brummell expressed gratitude to GTT for its commitment to those battling cancer in Guyana. “It isn’t easy battling cancer, but getting support, including in the form of care packages, helps you to stay positive,” Brummell stated.
Strategic Planning and Communications Manager at GPHC, Chelauna Providence was appreciative of the donations made to the cancer patients.
“The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) applauds the steadfast commitment of GTT to supporting those affected by cancer throughout Guyana,” Providence remarked.

She highlighted that the diagnosis, treatment and recovery of patients was a vigorous process for them, and their families and loved ones.
“We welcome the many interventions from GTT over the years in raising awareness and funds through its Pinktober initiative to support the oncology programme at the GPHC. We are particularly grateful that this company has found ways to support our cancer patients in light of the COVID-19 pandemic through the distribution of hampers that include cleaning and sanitising agents.”
Providence underscored that early detection was key – “early detection can save lives; get your regular screening done and consult with your doctor if you’re feeling unwell”.
GTT has been supporting the fight against cancer in Guyana since 2017 and despite the current pandemic, has still found innovative ways to raise awareness and education through the virtual Pinktober Experience throughout the month of October.
