Candy Boss and Antics GT BEER 8-side football: Defending champions Paradise advance; Cougars survive scare to send Ithaca home 5-1

Defending champions in the Candy Boss and Antics GT BEER 8-side football, Paradise FC have advanced to the second round of the competition after a hard-fought match last evening at the All Saints School Ground on Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
In what can only be described as the most exciting game of the tournament to date, defending champions Paradise recorded a 2-1 win over NA United on Sunday evening.
Aubrey Joseph opened the scoring in the 14th minute and four minutes later, Jamal Fraser made it 2- nil when he took a shot from the penalty spot.
Tyrick Olgerton netted a consolation for NA United in the 24th minute.
During the second half, NA United tried desperately for an equaliser but goalkeeper Jeremy Thornhill turned out to be a mountain too tall for NA United to get over.

Meanwhile, in the second game of the double header, Cougars secured a 5-1 win over Ithaca, but this was after an early scare as Ithaca took an early lead in the game and maintained it for most of the first half.
Chrisroy Cummings sent Ithaca into the lead in the 6th minute, but two goals in the 17th minute brought the home crowd ease. Lomar Reid scored first, followed by a goal from Devon James.
Reid scored his second in the 44th minute and one minute later, Ray Reddoch found the back of the net and then William Sommersell registered his name on the scoring card in the 60th minute.
The tournament continues on Friday with quarter-final action when Police FC take on Dynamic FC in the opening game of a double-header and Airy Hall FC and Mahaica FC play for a semi-final place in game two. (Andrew Carmichael)
