Canje 2-vehicle smash-up leaves 3 injured

Three persons, including the driver of a taxi, sustained bodily injuries following a two-vehicle collision on Wednesday along the Rose Hall Public Road in East Canje Berbice.

Injured are Chaatram Sukhu, 55, of West Canefield, East Canje, Berbice and his two passengers, Angela Fraser, 34, of Speculation Village Canje, and Drupwattie Samaroo, 49, of Adelphi Village Canje.
The Police have said that on the day in question, at about 15:30h, the taxi HB 6439 was proceeding along the Rose Hall Public Road at a normal rate of speed, while motorcar PZZ 1423 driven by a 32-year-old resident of Reliance Settlement was heading in the opposition direction at a fast rate of speed. In the process, the driver of PZZ 1423 suddenly swerved and collided head-on with the taxi.
As a result of the collision, the taxi driver and the two female passengers sustained injuries about their bodies.

The three injured persons were pulled from the wreckage in conscious condition and taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were examined. The two female passengers were treated and sent away, while the driver was admitted a patient crying out for pains around the chest area. His condition is regarded as stable.
Meanwhile, the driver of the speeding car was taken to the Central Police Station, where a breathalyzer test conducted on him proved he had consumed alcohol above the legal limit. He is expected to be charged shortly.
