Canje Knights claim BBA Championship title

The final game of the Berbice Basketball Association (BBA) Championships — a Nigel Hinds Financial Services-sponsored tournament played under lights at the New Amsterdam Basketball Court on Saturday — saw fans being treated to an exciting and entertaining game between Canje Knights and Rose Hall Town Jammers.
When play ended between these two top teams in Berbice, the scores read 88-86 in favour of the Canje Knights, who walked away with the spoils: $100,000; while, as the runner-up team, Rose Hall Town Jammers had to settle for $75,000.
At the end of the first quarter, RHT Jammers were in the lead 20-16, and this was extended at halftime by two points to 44-38; but in the third quarter, Canje Knights took the lead to 61-56, and held on to claim the victory in the end, notwithstanding the vociferous crowd support for both teams.
For Rose Hall Town Jammers, Shamer France scored 26 points and had 2 assists, 2 rebounds and 3 steals; while for the Canje Knights, Kwesi Mickle led the way with 17 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. His efforts were well supported by Jermaine King, who scored 14 points and secured 5 rebounds.
In the supporting game, the Demerara-based Plaisance Guardians Under-21 Team defeated the Hopetown Steelers of West Berbice 73- 71 in a crowd-pleasing thriller.
