The Nigel Hinds Financial Services-sponsored Berbice Basketball Association’s Mecca Classic continued on Saturday at the New Amsterdam Basketball Court with Rose Hall Town Jammers and Canje Knights emerging winners of the tournament.
Canje Knights defeated Fyrish Black Sharks 108 to 61. Top scorers for Canje Knights were Jamal Felix, who had 25 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals; Michael Bowen, who gathered 22 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals; and Tyrone Dey, who scored 19 points, 1 assist and 1 steal.
For Fyrish Black Sharks, Garfield Benjamin recorded 25 points, 6 assists, 1 rebound and 2 steals. He received support from Allandro Hercules, with 11 points, 1 assist and 1 rebound; and Carl Logan, with 14 points and 4 rebounds.
Rose Hall Town Jammers defeated Hopetown Stealers 69 to 46. Half-time score was 39 to 20 in favour of Jammers.
Jammers were led by Malcolm Mickel, who put up 22 points, 3 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, with 1 turnover; while Edmar Semple had 10 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal; and Kursi Mickel shot 9 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds and 4 steals.
Hopetown Stealers’ top performers were Kevon Mars, with 17 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 turn; Joshua Thompson, with 12 points and 1 assist; and Dave Torrington, with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 turnover.
Final game for the Mecca Classic will be on Saturday, January 11, when the unbeaten Canje Knights take on Rose Hall Town Jammers at the New Amsterdam Court. Jump ball time is 21:00h. (Andrew Carmichael)
