Canje nurse remanded for cannabis possession

A 39-year-old woman of Canje, Berbice, who was busted with a quantity of narcotics on Sunday last, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when she appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday morning.

The charge read that Suzette Samantha LaFleur on February 26, 2016, at Main Street, Cumberland Canje, Berbice, had in her possession 6.216 kilograms of cannabis for trafficking purposes.Marijuana-ziploc-740

LaFleur, who is a nurse by profession and a mother of seven, pleaded not guilty to the charge read by the Magistrate.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court the analysis of the narcotics was still outstanding.

The matter was transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court where it is expected to continue on March 8, 2017. The woman remains on remand until then.
