one game at the Burnham Park.
Canje Secondary went on a goal spree, registering 20 goals in 90 minutes against a helpless Overwinning Secondary. It was the fourth time that Overwinning had been sent packing in the first round and the fourth time that Canje Secondary has made it into the second round.
Shane Hamilton found the back of the net ten times and Jermine King did the same on seven occasions.
Playing on a waterlogged Burnham Park, Hamilton opened the scoring in the 7th minute and made it 2-nil three minutes later. In the 35th minute King completed a hat-trick and continued his onslaught, scoring in the 51st, 55th, 60th, 61st 68th, 68th, and 70th minutes.
King opened his scoring in the 13th minute and scored his second goal in the 42nd minute to make it 6-nil at that point. It was the second half that King exploded scoring goals in the 64th, 66th, 69th, 70th and 75th.
There was one goal each from Marlon Davis, Alade Grand and goalkeeper Marlack Davis who came out from between the uprights to participate in the goal fest.
Canje Secondary only had seven players who were properly registered to participate in the competition. They will now meet the winner of Tuesday’s game between JC Chandisingh and Central Corentyne.
Meanwhile, the action in the zone continues today with Lower Corentyne Secondary taking on Skeldon Linepath Secondary at the Skeldon Community Center. Last year, Skeldon showed good promise as they made it to the third round, while lower Corentyne has never made it past the first round in their three years competing.
In the meantime, none of the other four games scheduled for Wednesday on zone four were played Guyana Times Sport was told that teams were not properly registered.
The matches that were slated for Georgetown were Sophia Special versus Charlestown Secondary at Tucville and Mae’s High School against Kingston Secondary at the Guyana Defence Force Ground (GDF).
The other matches which failed to kick-off were the engagement between Plaisance and Buxton Secondary at Beterverwagting and the clash at Leonora between Covent Garden and Providence.
A senior representative of Digicel explained that Plaisance, Sophia Special, Kingston and Covent Garden all failed to produce the necessary birth certificates within the time and they did not want to proceed with the suspicion of having over-aged players.
In addition to the Skeldon Line Path Secondary versus Lower Corentyne game there are five more games scheduled for various venues today.
At Leonora, West Demerara Secondary will be in action against Patentia Secondary; Beterverwagting will lock horns with Ann’s Grove at the Victoria ground while in Hararuni, Dora Secondary will play Camille’s Academy.
The two Georgetown fixtures pins Carmel against New Campbellville Secondary at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and St. George’s battle Tutorial High at the Ministry of Education ground, in what should be an exciting clash.
All matches kick-off at 15:30 hrs.
