Lennox Williams, a driver attached to the K & G Shipping Company, was on Thursday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
This charge has been instituted on Williams following the August 10, 2017 early
morning accident on the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) in which 71-year-old pedestrian Chitraykha Sankar lost her life.
Particulars of the charge Williams faces detail that, on August 10, 2017, he drove motor lorry GMM 6594 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Sankar.
Williams’s attorney, in an application for bail, indicated that his client is a 69-year-old resident of Golden Grove, EDB; is a driver attached to the K&G Shipping Company; and had been released on $100,000 station bail following the accident.
According to the Prosecution’s case, on the day of the incident, the motor vehicle driven by Williams was proceeding north along the Houston public road when he struck the victim who was in the process of crossing the highway from the western side to the eastern side. Sankar was reportedly pitched in the air as a result of the impact, and landed a short distance away.
