Officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) seized over 10.5 kilograms (kg) of cocaine during an operation at Mora Village, Parika, East Bank Essequibo on Friday. According to CANU, ranks acting on information received conducted an operation in the vicinity of Mora Village, where they intercepted three males. One of the men was carrying a haversack, CANU said, and a search of the haversack led to the discovery of three brick-like parcels of cocaine.

The men Jared Kellawan, Jahdiel Kellawan and David Newsum were arrested and escorted to the residence of Jared Kellawan, where CANU officers conducted a further search. During that search, officers reportedly discovered an additional seven brick-like parcels of cocaine. The three suspects were subsequently taken to CANU Headquarters along with the narcotics. The parcels weighed a total of 10.966 kg, CANU said on Saturday. The men remain in custody pending charges.
