CANU intercepts car carrying over 85lbs ganja in Berbice

The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Sunday arrested a 48-year-old Berbice resident following the discovery of 85 pounds of cannabis in a car.

Based on reports received, on the day in question, CANU officers were conducting an operation at No 59 Village Beach Front, Corentyne, Berbice, when they intercepted a motor car and upon searching same, three bulky plastic-wrapped parcels were found.
As such, the lone occupant of the vehicle, Sean Benjamin was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Berbice office where the parcels were weighed and amounted to 38.8kg (85.53lbs). The estimated street value of the drug is $11.6 million.
