…2 EBD crashes leave extensive damage
An officer attached to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) is now nursing injuries after he was allegedly speeding along the Corentyne Highway on Sunday morning and crashed into two stationary vehicles.
At the time of the crash, he was driving a motor pickup, PRR 2272.
Reports are that the man lost control of the vehicle at Number 72 Village, Corentyne and slammed into a parked car, HC 3733, propelling the pickup into the air. The pickup landed in the tray of a parked lorry, GJJ 7052.
Police said that the accident was categorised as minor.
However, the car into which he slammed has been written off.
At the time, the man was returning to Georgetown and he was the only occupant in the car and was carrying a firearm, which was retrieved after the crash.
Police are investigating.
Meanwhile, in the wee hours of Sunday at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD), a truck wreaked havoc on the Herstelling Public Road as it ploughed into two buildings about 05:30h.
The accident has left extensive damage to both structures and several vehicles parked in the vicinity.
Guyana Times was informed that police have apprehended the driver, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Two individuals were reportedly transported to the hospital for medical treatment as a result of the accident.
In another incident at Timehri, EBD, a towering 20-foot Superbet sign became the subject of a vehicular mishap, as a vehicle veered off course, striking a canter before demolishing three concrete posts and a separation wall.
The impact caused significant structural damage, with nearly half of the building’s upper portion collapsing under the force.
As of now, it remains unclear whether any individuals sustained injuries in the Timehri accident.
