…warns of high-potency concentrates entering Guyana disguised as vape products
The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) has seized multiple branded Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) cannabis vape cartridges in Campbellville Housing Scheme, Georgetown, following an intelligence-led operation on Thursday.
According to CANU, the seizure highlights a growing trend of high-potency cannabis concentrates being imported into Guyana disguised as consumer vape products. The packaging is colourful, professionally printed, and appears designed to attract youths, raising concerns over potential rapid circulation.

CANU in a statement on Thursday said that the chemical composition and potential contaminants of the seized products are currently unknown, and samples have been submitted for laboratory analysis. Authorities emphasised that, under Guyana’s laws, all forms of cannabis and THC products are illegal, regardless of packaging, branding, or foreign “medical use” labels.
“The products found, including live resin and THC vape oils, fall directly under cannabis extracts and resins, which are prohibited under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Cap. 10:10,” a CANU spokesperson said. “Labels claiming ‘for medical use only’ have no legal standing in Guyana.”
The Early Warning System (EWS) housed within CANU has classified these THC cartridges as high-risk emerging threats, particularly for minors. The EWS monitors trends, chemical profiles, packaging styles, and trafficking patterns of concentrated cannabis products to guide enforcement operations nationwide.
The public is urged to report suspicious substances confidentially to CANU via Tel: 592-227-3503 / 592-226-0431 or Email: [email protected].
