Car set on fire as driver slept

Police in Regional Division 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice) are investigating the circumstances which have led to motorcar HB 4084 being set on fire.
Owed by a 39-year-old resident of Wismar, Linden, the vehicle was set on fire between 19:00h and 21:15h on Thursday.

According to the owner, at about 21:15h on Thursday, he and his wife were awakened by a loud explosion, and upon investigating, he saw the car, which was parked in his yard, completely engulfed in flames.
Assisted by his wife, the man said, he managed to put out the fire, but the car was completely destroyed.
Police were called, and investigations are ongoing.
Just a few months ago 52-year-old Edward Taylor of Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) awoke to find his motorcar, PSS 407, engulfed in flames.
Police have said the fire was spotted at about 02:30h, and the Fire Service was immediately alerted. A fire tender from the Campbellville Fire Station responded to the scene, and firemen put out the blaze.
Based on reports received, Taylor had secured his motor car and had retired to bed at about 21:00h. He had reportedly parked the vehicle, worth $2.2 million, on the eastern side of Prince William Street, facing north, about 40 feet from his home. However, he awoke to find his car in flames, and he contacted the Police.
No one has been arrested, but Police are continuing their investigations. (G9)
