Car thief caught after crashing into trench

An alleged car thief is now under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he sustained injuries while attempting to steal a motor car at Cherry Field, La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The incident reportedly occurred in the wee hours of Monday. Based on information received, 43-year-old Annand Gaj was in his house when he heard the engine of his blue Toyota Carina motor car bearing registration number PKK 543 running.
As such, he looked out to enquire and saw his car being driven away. The owner immediately raised an alarm and without hesitation, his neighbours went in pursuit of the car.
The suspect was reportedly caught after the car got stock in a trench and could not move. From all indications, the 19-year-old suspect was given a trashing after which he was handed over to the Police with injuries to his head.
He was subsequently taken to the hospital where he was treated and admitted a patient under guard. He is expected to be charged shortly.
