Caribbean’s best to attend Aliann Pompey Track & Field Invitational

Some of the Caribbean’s top stars of track and field will be in Guyana to compete at the Aliann Pompey Invitational, which speeds off on June 30 at the Leonora Track & Field Centre.

Athletes from across the region, including Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Grenada and the Dominican Republic, and others will be vying for top honours at the synthetic track.

The invitational was officially launched last week with a number of events in both male and female categories. Some of the events were: the Men’s 100m, Men’s 400m, Women’s 400, Javelin, and others being contested.

Winston George, Kevin Abbensetts, Compton Caesar and Alisha Fortune are among some of the confirmed high-profile Guyanese who are set to participate in this phenomenal track and field meet.

Meanwhile, the Level 1 category prize bracket will see the winner taking home US $1,500, while second and third place winners receive US$1,000 and US$600. The races which attract these prizes include the Men’s and Women’s 400m, Men’s Triple Jump, and Women’s 100m.

Level 2 top finishers will cart off US$1,000, US$600 and US$400 respectively. These races are the Men’s and Women’s 400m Hurdles, Men’s 110m and Women’s 100m hurdles, Men’s 100m and Women’s Triple Jump.

The other category, Level 3, attracts US$500, US$200 and US$100, which will be awarded to the top performers in the Men’s and Women’s 200m, Men’s and Women’s 800m, Men’s Javelin, Men’s 5000m and Women’s 1500m.
