Carpenter arraigned for stealing neighbour’s bicycle

Forty-year-old Pier Amsterdam of Lot 100 Laluni Street Queenstown, Georgetown appeared on Tuesday before Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman on a simple larceny charge alleging that, on August 28, he stole a bicycle belonging to his neighbour Bynoe Morris while it was parked on Morris’s bridge at Lot 103 Laluni Street, Queenstown.
Amsterdam, who plies his trade as a carpenter, denied the charge.
The prosecution is contending that, on the day in question, the bicycle was parked on the lawns of Morris’s home, two houses away from the accused, when the bike went missing.
It is further contended that the defendant was seen riding the same bicycle when an alarm was raised, and he was arrested and charged with larceny.
He has been placed on bail in the sum of $60,000 and is expected to return to court for continuation of his matter.
