Carpenter dies in Parika Backdam accident

A 25-year-old carpenter is now dead after he was struck by a motor lorry on the Parika Backdam access road, East Bank Essequibo, on Thursday.
Dead is Avinash Sookhoo of Lot 2085 Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo. According to the police report, the incident occurred at about 16:50h.
Guyana Times was told that Sookhoo was riding an unregistered motorcycle and proceeding east along the northern side of the road at a fast rate when he lost control of the motorcycle and ended up on the southern side of the road, and in the path of motor lorry GRR 759.
The motor lorry was driven by a 38-year-old man of Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo.
Reports are the carpenter collided with the right-side rear of the motor lorry, that was stationary on the southern side grass parapet of the road.
Due to the impact of the collision, the motorcycle was cut into two. Sookoo fell onto the roadway and received injuries to his head and about his body. He was picked up by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious state and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the driver of the motor lorry was taken into custody, and is presently assisting Police with investigations.
Speaking with this publication, brother of the now dead man, Vasudeo Sookoo said that the family is clueless as to the circumstances surrounding the accident. He said the family is trying to comb through the bits of information they are receiving to ascertain what really occurred.
He added that the family is unaware of how Sookhoo had an unregistered motorcycle in his possession.
“He lives with my mother and father; I don’t know where he was left to go because he didn’t have a bike and we don’t know where he got the bike from. We don’t know is who bike, the bike didn’t have number plate nothing. When I go, I see the bike,” the grieving brother said.
