Guyana Jaguars suffered their second loss in the CONCACAF Under-20 Men’s Championships when they battled Cayman Islands at the IMG Academy in Florida on Tuesday.
The Jaguars were not able to prevent the Cayman Islands’ come-from-behind win, and they lost the lost the Group F encounter 3-2.
The Jaguars had claimed the lead early when Kelsey Benjamin scored in the fifth minute; and they kept that lead until the brink of half-time, when Cayman Islands were gifted a penalty attempt, which was successfully taken by Albertini Holmes.
When play resumed, Cayman Islands gained the lead for the first time with a Kareem Foster goal scored in the 58th minute. Two minutes later, Guyana’s half-time sub Chris Macey drew the equaliser to keep the Jaguars’ hopes alive. However, the aggressive Jabari Campbell scored the decider for the Cayman Islands just seven minutes after the battle had been engaged.
With that win, Cayman Islands have finally put themselves on the board with three points, and are now slotted at third, while Curacao and Guyana remain at the bottom with no points.
Pushing on from their opening win against Guyana, Guatemala also defeated Curacao, to lead the group with six points. They have the same amount of points as the El Salvador team, which is undefeated in their two matches.
Guyana Jaguars continue their bid to seek qualification into the second round when they take on Curacao on Thursday.
