The Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) has been officially commissioned. The office, situated at Republic Avenue, Mackenzie, has been in operation for some time but was officially handed over to the CCPA by Social Protection Minister Amna Ally. Speaking at a small opening ceremony, which was marked by the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, Minister Ally said it is the Ministry’s responsibility to provide “excellent service because the population out there depends on us. And we have got to ensure that every department, whether you belong to probation, whether you belong to child care… it is a good thing that all of us can be housed in one building. So that we can know what each other is doing… that we can work together… so that we can make the Ministry very effective. That is very important

The Minister also applauded those who contributed to the success of the initiative as she shared her hope for similar initiatives to be taken to other regions.
“I long for the day, at the national level, where we can bring all of the services together, all of the buildings together so that we can operate from one location providing the many services for our people…I hope that in all the regions, we’re going to have similar offices where we can have our people together, so that we can provide the necessary services for the people of the particular regions,” Ally said.
Noting that Linden is fortunate for such services, the Minister urged the community to embrace the facility with a more coordinated approach of all the sectors, in providing improved services.
The Ministry’s Principle Personnel Officer, Shelton Daniels said the office will house the CCPA Department of Probation and Social Services, Department of Co-ops, Labour, Board of Industrial Training, Occupational Safety and Health Department in addition to administration. He pointed out that it also has about 20 staff members.
The office is a rented space, which shares a building with other businesses.
