CDC distributes cleaning supplies to flood-affected communities in Region 6

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) on Thursday handed over a number of cleaning hampers to the municipality of Rose Hall Town and the Region Six Regional Democratic Council, Region to distribute to households affected by flooding due to the heavy rainfall.

Senior Response Officer, Captain Salim October told Department of Public Information (DPI) that the agency partners closely with regional officials as part of the Regional Disaster Risk Management system to assist residents who are affected by disasters.

“We are responding to the flooding situation which we had in Region 6 as a result of continuous rainfall associated with the current weather pattern,’ October

said.
He noted also the supplies which included disinfectants, wipes and other cleaning agents will also support sanitisation efforts in dealing with the current global pandemic.
“We trust that it will aid the residents who are engaged in their own cleanup exercise. So, these cleaning supplies will also not only respond to the attendant issue of flooding but will also help to sanitise residences and by extension address some concerns with COVID-19”.
Captain October used the opportunity to remind residents to practise the necessary precautions – of elevating items off their floors, unplugging electronics and ensuring drains are clean – to protect their homes from flooding during this rainy season.
Meanwhile, Regional Chairman David Armogan disclosed that he made contact with the agency after receiving calls about flooding in several areas in the region including Number 47 Village, Whim and Manchester.
The Chairman thanked the agency noting that the timely donation will assist the residents to return their homes to normalcy.
