CDC offers to deliver supplies to persons in quarantine
The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) has taken up the mantle of offering to deliver items, which were sent by persons to their relatives in quarantine at no cost.
CDC Director General, Lt Col Kester Craig
This is due to the high risk of exposure to families and friends of persons in institutional quarantine or isolation. Even though persons at the centres will be provided with meals and essential items for daily living, CDC suggests that persons who are desirous of sending items to their relatives in institutional quarantine or isolation should do so through the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) Headquarters located at Thomas Lands, Thomas Road, Georgetown.
The Commission requires that: “all liquids are tightly sealed, all items inclusive of personal items must be neatly packed in boxes and labelled with the name and contact number of the person sending and receiving the package. However, CDC said perishable food items including cooked foods will not be accepted because of the risk of spoilage and contamination during transport”.
They further noted that: “all items are subject to inspection, alcohol, cigarettes, and cash will be refused while herbs or illicit drugs will be confiscated. Persons delivering packages will be required to sign off the necessary documentation prepared by the CDC. All items should be at the CDC no later than 15:00hrs or 3:00 pm (Monday-Friday), and all persons entering into the CDC compound must comply with the hygiene/sanitation rules. Persons failing to do so, will not be allowed into the compound”.
Meanwhile, a group of Guyanese, who arrived on a chartered flight from Barbados on Wednesday evening, who were quarantined at a location on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, have complained about the conditions in which they are being placed to stay over the next two weeks.
A relative of one of those persons told <<<Guyana Times>>> that there are not adequate arrangements in place at the quarantine facility to accommodate the group that arrived. In fact, it was noted that the group is being made to stay with persons who were already there, three of whom appeared sick.
This publication was told that while the males and females have separate sleeping quarters, there are two bathrooms and two toilets, with only one functioning sink, for everyone to use. It was noted that they all have to use the same utensils.
Some of the persons who came in on the flight stated that they do not have necessities, such as towels, as they were only allowed to fly with a 20-pound luggage on the light aircraft.
