Central Corentyne Secondary complete volleyball clean sweep

Tagore, Linepath and Central Corentyne schools registered commanding victories last weekend when action continued in the Region Six Secondary School’s Volleyball tournament played at venues across Berbice.
In the first leg of the competition played among institutes in the Upper Corentyne area, three schools; Skeldon Linepath, Skeldon High and Tagore Memorial did battle in the round robin stages with Tagore emerging winners of the male category after beating Skeldon in the final encounter.
In the female category, it was only Linepath and Skeldon High who did battle with the former winning after completing two straight sets. Meanwhile, in the second leg played among schools in the Central Corentyne area, the home team overcame Bushlot Secondary by two sets (25-7, 25-8) to win the finals of that zone.
In the earlier rounds, Bush Lot beat Manchester Secondary 30-27 thus advancing to the finals while the eventual winners Central Corentyne disposed of Bush Lot 30-7 to set up the final clash. The female encounter was also won by Central Corentyne who made light work of Manchester Secondary, winning by a single set 30-16.
Meanwhile, the Kendall Memorial Sports Club of Number 19 village Corentyne, Berbice held a one day tournament on Sunday in memory of the late Mark Hendricks. Four male teams namely; Guysuco Training Center Port Mourant 1 (GTCPM), Corriveton Jets, Kendall’s Union and BTCPM 2 squared off in the Junior category.
GTCPM 1 prevailed winners over GTCPM 2 in the final match which was affected by bad light, storming to a 30-22 set win. In the senior male category, five teams; Port Mourant Training Center 1 (PMTC1), PMTC 2, Rollers, Port Mourant Jaguars and Kendall’s Union locked horns in the round robin stages with PMTC 1 trouncing Rollers two sets (25-14, 28-18) to clinch the finals.
PMTC 1 received $20,000 and a trophy for finishing first while Rollers received $10,000 as well as a trophy. National Setter and PMTC 1 Davendra Latchman won the MVP award. The tournament continues this week.
