Central Essequibo victorious at inaugural Independence 10-10 Cup

Central Essequibo emerged champions at the recently held inaugural Independence 10-10 Cup on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

Playing at the Imam Bacchus ground, Central Essequibo beat South Essequibo by 40 runs. Central Essequibo tallied a challenging 92-4 from the 10 overs, and then kept South Essequibo to 52-6 at the expiration of their ten overs.
Leading the way for Central Essequibo was captain and former national youth player Rovindra Parasram with a steady 24, while ex-Guyana under-19 cricketer Nathan Persaud chipped in with 18. Javid Azeeze captured two wickets for 10 runs from his two overs in delivering for South Essequibo.
No batsman was able to make any impression when South Essequibo pursued the target, as off-spinner Narindra Madholall grabbed three wickets from two economical overs wherein he conceded only six runs.
The two other participating teams were Pomeroon and North Essequibo.
The winning side received $100,000 and a trophy while $50,000 was given to South Essequibo, along with a trophy.
The day’s event was played in honour of Guyana’s 56th Independence Anniversary and was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport in conjunction with the Essequibo Cricket Board.
President of the Central Essequibo Cricket Committee, Trevis Simon, has congratulated his team for emerging victorious. He said they had played handsome cricket throughout the day, beginning by defeating North Essequibo by six wickets.
